A new community initiative spearheaded by the Institute of Community called Community Life includes the launch of a new website that is open to the public and lists a wealth of organizations an events intended to connect the residents of Romeoville.

According to Mike Vickery, director of the Institute, while the project is sponsored through the Institute and is based the Highpoint residential area, the activities listed cover the entire Romeoville area and include links to other organizations and activities open to the public.

"We believe in the power of connection – people connecting to other people, clubs, events, organizations, etc. – because it adds value to people's lives and promotes genuine community," said Lindsey Vallaro, one of the architects for the website. "Our community website is designed based off of that value and endorses all organizations and activities throughout the Romeoville area…It's an incredibly useful tool to prevent people from feeling socially isolated."

Users can go to www.comunitylife.info/highpoint and check out the event calendar to see what's happening this month around Romeoville, or they can go to the Useful Links tab and quickly find websites to local businesses and organizations from Uhaul and Nicor Gas to the International Ice Centre and the Chicago Bears schedule to schools and park district websites.

"We have approximately 200 items posted on our calendar ad we try to add five events or activities a week," added Vallaro. "The number can be unlimited because residents are encouraged to signup for the website and add their own events or activities that they’re involved with."

In addition users can sign up for email newsletters with news from all area organizations and join discussion groups ranging from family, spiritual, education and career, health and wellness, and recreational.
